Addendum

I made statman promise he would not leave without saying good-bye. He followed through. I was in a meeting, which was probably best because it kept our good-bye short and I didn't have time to be too emotional. After my meeting as I was returning to my office I noticed that his door was still open. I got all excited and ran to his door to exclaim "You're still here!" But he wasn't still here. His office was completely bare, not one book, file, empty coffee cup, or his coat. The open door played a trick on me. I shut the door.
